ANALYSIS OF CLIENT NEED

  • Jenny, who recenty had retired, came to us with a portfolio of 25 equity positions that had not been actively managed.
  • The positions had accumulated over 25+ years, and each had an extremely low-cost basis.
  • Jenny wanted to revisit the risk/reward profile of the portfolio, and get our ideas on  income generating investments and possible tax-planning strategies.

  • This planning helped create a Roth IRA that is classified as “excess assets” and preserved for the benefit of Meredith’s two nieces.
  • The conversions all took place prior to the start of required minimum distributions from her traditional IRA.

OUTCOME

  • RB Capital minimized the tax impact and during the years of conversion Meredith paid off the mortgage on her primary residence.
  • We also helped Meredith purchase a 15-year term life insurance policy for her niece’s husband, for which she’ll pay the annual premium and create peace of mind for the future.
